Warm Springs Pools Soak at The Omni Homestead Resort

I really wanted to leave a five star review, but cannot. I will, however, not share the photos of the shower in our room after the manager attempted to make it right by offering a reduction in cost of the over $1K one night stay for me and my two small kids. The property is beautiful and is located in a stunning area of Virginia. It’s vast and impressive. The lobby is gorgeous and the history is fascinating. That said, the extra money added to the base price is excessive. Happy to spend the money if the experience is worth it, but this was not. The included tea time was lackluster. They offered a tiny price of coconut cake and buffet style tea, coffee, and lemonade. The check in process was awkward and unwelcoming. We had to ask for the Kids Creative Bags (which were awesome). The staff at Woody’s restaurant were friendly. The kids enjoyed the pools and lawn games. $15 for a small S’mores kit FYI. Overall my kids had a wonderful time and this was our first trip away on a while, but we had more bang for our buck watching the chickens and going to the pools when we stayed at the Inn at Warm Springs. Still worth the experience for my kids, but I’ll probably choose Greenbrier after the overall experience.

We will 100% be back! The property itself was gorgeous, of course, but the staff really made it. Check in was easy and our room was amazing. The A/C unit was a bit loud for my taste, but I'm a sensitive sleeper so that one is on me. The Warm Springs was such a fun and relaxing addition to our trip! The restaurants were really the highlight of the trip. The food itself was impeccable, as were the drinks, but most importantly the servers were so accommodating. My husband has a gluten allergy and he was able to eat everywhere comfortably as if he had no allergies at all. At Woody's, they were able to do a gluten free crust on any pizza, gluten free pasta, and even had gluten free bread pieces (I think just spare pizza crust) that he could eat with the meat and cheese plate. At the Audubon breakfast buffet, everything was kept clean and separated so he was able to enjoy a range of breakfast items without cross-contamination concerns. And best of all, at Jefferson's Restaurant, Veronica made our night! When another server brought over bread for the table, she immediately came running over to tell my husband that there was a gluten free bread on the way for him because she was worried he would eat the gluten! Then, because it was his birthday, she brought out a gluten free cheesecake (amazing) with sprinkles on it, and said she even made sure the sprinkles were safe for him. This was the first trip we've taken since his diagnosis, and I was really worried it would hinder his enjoyment of any meals, but the staff at the Homestead made all of those fears go away! I highly recommend this resort to people with allergies, they never once made us feel like a burden for our weird table needs!

This historic hotel offers seclusion from the hustle and bustle of busy life. Nestled in the mountains its geography removes you physically to a more relaxed atmosphere. Visitors will not find much to do beyond the property lines. Dining options are not as plentiful nor is the menu as robust as one would hope; this is further complicated by the very limited dining options off site as this location is very remote. If you are planning a stay, you should be sure that there is enough diversity in things to do and eat on site. While the staff is very polite, you will find them very scripted. Sincerity is void. Midwesterners will particularly notice this difference. Stairs are plentiful and elevator service does not offer full coverage to every floor and every room with. Strong consideration should be given to using a service for your luggage to get to and from your room. While I believe southern charm may be a goal, they fall short in the areas of hospitality, sincerity and outward friendliness. We found the property and rooms to be clean.

The rooms and food are not as nice and well kept as what I would expect. In my room the chair was VERY stained. Otherwise it was nice. Easily the best thing for me was the spa and hot springs that are onsite. I don't golf. But the history and amenities are fantastic. The staff is great.

Overall, we would not return. The property is beautiful, and the massages were outstanding, but the experience didn't match the price. At around $700/night, we've had much better stays elsewhere for less. It feels like the resort relies on its history and remote location to justify premium pricing. The landscaping is stunning, the spa facilities are very nice, and the massages were among the best we've had. The adults-only spa area was a highlight and worth the extra cost if you're looking for a quiet place to relax. Unfortunately, almost everything else fell short. Communication about off-site activities was poor—we repeatedly had to seek information ourselves, and nearly missed our shuttle to the Warm Springs because no one told us when or where it departed. Our room looked nice, but the shower either made an unbearable high-pitched squeal while providing hot water or was quiet with only lukewarm water. Several bedroom outlets were too loose to charge devices, leaving only one working outlet in the bathroom and one behind the TV. Dining was disappointing. Hosts often seemed confused, reservations were apparently recommended for nearly every meal, and most of the food was average at best. Drinks were also underwhelming, though Woody's was the exception—the Italian sandwich, raspberry lemon drop, and the bartender during the 7/1 dinner shift were excellent. Most staff were polite but often seemed unsure how to help guests. One hostess at Woody's stood out by proactively solving problems instead of leaving guests waiting. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and impeccably maintained, with plenty of wildlife to spot while walking around. If you're considering the Omni Homestead, go for the spa and scenery—but for the overall experience, service, and value, we don't feel it justifies the price.
