Walk Through the Waterfalls at Watkins Glen

Came end of June and it was such a wonderful two days. The campground was great, with warm showers and cleanliness. The hike down Glen Creek was so pretty, we loved the parts that went they rock (like caves) and behind the waterfalls. So unique. Lots of wildflowers! The surrounding town is very lovely too, walkable with restaurants, shopping and lake front

LOVE Watkins Glen State Park. Lots of stairs so if that’s not your thing, probably not your favorite park. There’s parking at the bottom and the gorge trail is about 1.5 miles each way. We took the gorge trail to the north rim trail and that brought us back down. We had children ages 9,8,6,&5 with us. All did great and there was little to no anxiety taking them here. Very family friendly place to take the kids. Walking behind waterfalls was a treat too!

So beautiful! The Gorge Trail was the most beautiful hike I've done anywhere east of Utah. It was a good level for my family with 3 kids ranging from 4-11yo, distance and difficulty-wise. We had to carry the youngest off and on, but we were expecting that. When they say "moderate" on the trail sign, it means quite a lot of stairs, but no rock scrambles or steep inclines. The path is mostly stone, but parts are always wet from the falls, so there are slick spots, puddles, and muddy places, so good shoes are a must. It is a popular hike, so be prepared for sharing the trail. We went on a warm summer Saturday, so probably at a peak time. On weekdays and in less agreeable weather it would probably have fewer visitors. If you walk the whole thing and do the shuttle back (it goes both directions), there are QR codes at the shuttle stops to pay on your phone, or cash is also accepted.

Stunning hike!!! My significant other & I did the hike here and it was breathtaking! There was a beautiful view & waterfall every corner we took! Although, we started very early and as the morning got later, crowds of people started coming as we walked back. It made it difficult because of how many people were there (especially the narrower paths).

Watkins Glen State Park is absolutely stunning. I’ve visited several times, and each trip feels just as breathtaking as the last. The scenery never gets old. That said, it does involve quite a bit of walking—and plenty of steps—so it can be a bit challenging, especially with small children. But if you’re up for the adventure, the beauty of the gorge and waterfalls make it entirely worthwhile.
