    We parked at the old train station and made our way up the wide tree lined trail up to to the parking lot for Kaaterskill Falls. The hike is easy and completely shade due to tree canopy. From the parking lot it is a short hike(.3 miles) to the observation platform. It’s nice easy hike with a big reward. The hike was 3.5 miles, in and out.

    Go early (before 10-11am) for parking especially on weekend. Some parking sites are closed. Can park at the Laurel House Road parking site (closest to falls) or Scott Road (smaller lot). Can also park at the North or South Lake Camping grounds if starting there. You will get towed by the rangers if you park illegally. This is a moderate hike but may be a little tough for beginners and may need to stop more. Dog friendly. Good for kids that can mostly walk and climb stairs on their own at least ages 5 and up. For younger children, may need to carry them some parts especially if you plan to go all the way down to the bottom of the falls. There are a lot of stairs. Main trail to the bottom of the falls goes down the stairs, and it is steep coming back up. If you have elderly with you or very young kids, ground is mostly flat to the viewing point at the top of the falls.There is also other flat ground/ paved paths around the area if you just want to walk.

    Absolutely magnificent in winter. A real dreamland. Magical, with pine tree lined, pristine white snowy trails to the falls. It is a sensation to see when frozen. You really need ice cleats, or crampons (they make really affordable ones on Amazon) & walking sticks. The trails can freeze over and if you want to venture behind them, you'll never make it without the footwear. Dont get hurt. Be smart, be prepared. The hike is moderate. Not very difficult. It's dog friendly, no bathrooms. There is parking but on weekends it can be very busy. Go early if possible.

    This place is beautiful! The parking is free. The trials are easy to follow. There is no service here so be sure to download AllTrails app so you have a map to follow! Ne side to bring a swimsuit cause the water is very inviting!!

    The hike itself is crazy 🤪 but every step was worth it . Getting to the bottom feeling that water was refreshing. Such a beautiful moment . God’s beautiful creation leaves you speechless every angle of it🥰 every race has his finish line and this was worth it all❗️
