Explore the New York Botanical Garden: Nature's Marvel in the Bronx

My partner and I traveled into NYC for the weekend from a bit north of Philadelphia to visit the New York Botanical Garden. Wow, what a wonderful visit. Highly recommend. We stayed in Manhattan and took the D train from 53rd and 7th uptown to the Bedford Park metro stop and followed the street signs to the garden entrance. The garden is massive but the lay out id easy to follow. The garden was offering a Flower Power display all through the garden with an enormous peace sign, an older version of a VW Bus covered with flowers, hippie music playing all through the park and plenty of displays all around the garden filled with colorful flowers and fall pumpkins and ghourds. Even though the garden had many visitors, the garden never feels crowded with many wide open spaces and areas to get away from the crowds. There is a cafeteria on site with a limited supply of food, we tried the Tofu Sandwich, and felt it was average. Seating is limited. Many walking trails wind you through the garden with multiple water features and shaded areas to sit and rest. The garden is well laid out and worth a visit. There is a children's area where the little ones can explore and play. Great day trip out of Manhattan.

Such a gorgeous place. The flowers, even as we start to head into the fall season, were still so vibrant! (I mean, just look at the photos) Currently they have a 70s ‘Flower Power’ theme in the garden until October, I believe, so check it out while you can! I went in the morning yesterday with family and it was so quiet and not crowded at all! Only by around noon did the garden start to get a lot more visitors. We did some walking throughout the entire conservatory and then went on the tram and enjoyed a really nice and informative tour of the whole garden. We did face a 15 minute delay at one of the tram stops, but all that did was allow us to admire the natural landscape more. Before we left I snagged a shirt and pin at the gift shop and we took some photos in a photo booth by the Southern Blvd entrance. Definitely recommend coming here, especially if you live in The Bronx or other boroughs. The New York Botanical Garden truly deserves all of the appreciation and support it can get!

It’s a peaceful and beautiful place to spend a day with family and friends. If you’ve visited the Montreal Botanical Garden, be prepared for a different experience. Personally, I preferred the Montreal garden because I found it more walkable and engaging, while the New York Botanical Garden is more academically oriented and places a stronger emphasis on botany and plant collections. As a result, it may be especially appealing to botanists and serious gardening enthusiasts. That said, I truly appreciated the tranquil atmosphere and the beautiful landscape they have created. I definitely felt the “power of flowers” during my visit.

Definitely recommend a visit. We loved the water gardens the best, but the conifer garden was surprisingly good, as well as the rock garden. Lots of places to enjoy and it's plenty big to have a good walk. Flower Power displays are fun, but less than we expected. The cafe was decent and not overpriced. Definitely not crowded because of the weather but that made all the better.

I’ve visited the New York Botanical Garden twice in the past few months—once for the Peppa Pig exhibit with my children and most recently for the Flower Power exhibition—and both visits were fantastic. The gardens are absolutely spectacular and impeccably maintained. Everywhere you look there’s something beautiful to admire, from vibrant seasonal flowers to stunning landscapes. Parking is convenient, the facilities are spotless, and every staff member we encountered was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. During our family visit, my kids had an amazing time exploring the gardens, and the trolley ride was one of the highlights of the day. On my most recent visit for the Flower Power event, I was once again impressed by the incredible displays and the overall beauty of the grounds. It was such a relaxing and memorable experience. Whether you’re visiting with children, as a couple, or simply looking for a peaceful day surrounded by nature, the New York Botanical Garden is well worth the trip. I always leave inspired and can’t wait to come back again!
