The Parkway was closed. Was lucky enough to follow a work crew up through the gate of the Blue Ridge Parkway on Monday January 12, 2026 & was able to park a mile away from trailhead. The trail is in good shape. The left side trail near the falls is not the best angle for a picture-video as trees were down right in front of falls. Instead of crossing large wet rocks when you take your final left turn-decent down towards the falls, there is a path that goes right towards the river. After taking that I went downstream about 200 meters to a very shallow water-rock hop safely crossing the creek to be on river right. The walk up to the base of the falls was easy. This is also the side to get to the top, which there were a lot more trees down & is likely a bit more adventurous…surprisingly I didn’t do it on this day….happy with the win of exploring the base. Downhill decent, uphill ascent. Nice switchbacks-a few stair cases, some rocky footing (nothing too technical), & approximately 3 miles parking lot to falls & back, including the backing up to cross the creek. Pictures don’t do it justice & videos won’t load! It’s much bigger & better in person. When plants are blooming it will be an even nicer hike. Dog friendly & nothing dangerous as described. Have fun, definitely worth a reasonable moderate hike.

An absolutely beautiful experience that I hope to have again someday soon. The trail itself is magnificent and a really good hike. The waterfall makes you want to spend all day there exploring the surrounding areas and seeing all the incredible sights and wildlife and fauna.

Crabtree Falls is wonderful and one of the more dramatic falls in this area with about a 150 foot drop. The trail to get there is not long, but can be challenging with many roots, rocks a steep decline and three steep sets of stone stairs which have sturdy railings. I have done this hike about a dozen times always as a loop. It's about a half a mile longer, but easier coming back up and out. Going in bear to the right and take the shorter way down to the base of the falls.

If I can do it you can too. This hike is listed at moderate/strenuous. I was a little nervous but went for it with my dog. It's a rugged path. Plenty wide and well marked you can't get lost. I'm fat and my dog is chunky and it was definitely some exercise but well worth it. Great views. Lots of steps. We went right (counterclockwise) but it's the same either way. You need to go down to the falls and then back up. Take your time. Enjoy the hike.

Fairly moderate hike to get to the falls. What a place to get lost in nature. A little difficult for a dog. Totally worth the drive.
