Walk Among the Trees: Gatlinburg Skywalk Adventure

Visiting the Treetop Skywalk at Anakeesta during a rainy‑season night turned out to be one of the most breathtaking experiences we’ve had in the Smokies. The combination of misty air, gentle drizzle, and the naturally smoky mountain backdrop created an atmosphere that felt almost surreal. Walking across the suspended bridges in the dark, with the forest wrapped in fog, made the entire place feel calm, mysterious, and incredibly beautiful. The highlight of the night was the firefly show. Watching tiny golden lights flicker through the trees while standing high above the forest was absolutely magical. It felt like the whole place came alive. Even with the rain, the pathways were well‑lit, safe, and easy to navigate, and the staff made sure everyone was comfortable. If you’re visiting Anakeesta, I highly recommend experiencing the Treetop Skywalk at night—especially during the rainy season. The dark smoky views paired with the fireflies create a unique, unforgettable moment that you simply won’t get during the day. A perfect blend of nature, serenity, and mountain charm.

Walking through Treetop Skywalk at Anakeesta was one of the most enjoyable parts of visiting Anakeesta. The suspended bridges give you a unique perspective of the forest canopy, and it feels peaceful being surrounded by towering trees while gently walking above the ground. The pathway is well maintained, safe, and easy to navigate for most visitors. It is not physically demanding, so families and older adults can comfortably enjoy it too. There are plenty of spots to stop for photos, but the experience is even better when you take your time instead of rushing from one bridge to the next. A helpful tip is to visit either early in the day or later in the evening when there are fewer people on the bridges. Comfortable shoes are recommended since there is a lot of walking throughout Anakeesta. The combination of mountain scenery, fresh air, and the unique treetop experience makes this a memorable attraction that is definitely worth including in your visit.

It was good but could have been better if people followed the rules and didn’t jump or shake the bridges. We had some very rude and inconsiderate people behind our group that ruined our experience. FYI we did see a bear below and they have been known to climb up onto these bridges.

Amazing destination for family fun.. had a great time with kids on almost all their attractions. Loved their treetop sky walk both at day and dusk with lighting.. mountain coasters, astralumina tree venture and much more... preplan to get the tickets, annual pass is worth, if you can make another trip within the year.. the lines to get on to the chair lift can get crazy during peak seasons (wait 2 hours going up and 1 hrs coming down). Annual pass can let you in express lane while going up (not coming down).

The Treetop Skywalk is a fun way to see the forest from above, with suspended bridges that add a little thrill without being too intense. It’s a unique experience, especially at night when the path lights up and the forest feels quiet and magical. The walk is smooth and manageable, even for older family members, though it helps to go early or late to avoid crowds. We went twice—once during the day and again after dark—and both times offered something different. It’s not the best spot for panoramic views, but the experience itself is worth it. Just take your time, be mindful of slower walkers, and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the walk.
