The trip itself was good overall. The scenery was beautiful! The staff was knowledgeable & helpful! We did the indoor coach seating, and the seats are too narrow for two normal adults to seat in one seat comfortably. Plus the seats were not that comfortable, so 6 hours (roundtrip) of train ride on those seats wasn't as much fun. Overall, I do recommend the train ride.

We took the train from Durango up to Silverton, and it was an experience we won't forget. We went with the open air train car, and it was worth it for sure. Getting to feel the breeze and hear the water from the river below really adds to the experience. It does take about 3 1/2 hours to get to Silverton from Durango, so keep that in mind when choosing how you'll make the return trip. You can take the train back down, but we ended up taking the bus back which was only about 1 1/2 hours. Do yourself a favor and just book a ride on this train, it's worth it!

Wow!! What an unforgettable experience! We took the train up and the bus back and were so happy with our day. The train ride in the open air cab was the highlight! We thought 3 1/2 hours would seem long, but it flew by. So many beautiful things to see! Make sure to book on the right side of train when heading north for the best vantage points along the river.

LOVED THIS!! It’s worth it! We only ride one way. 3.5 hours. We were in the vintage car, so it was covered. There’s no AC, but you can open all the windows and it’s nice that way. I do wish there were shades or little curtains on the top half of the window because the sun was glaring a few times. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS!! The staff is very friendly. Overall, it was a great experience to have.

This is one of those adventures you just can't skip. I went ten years ago and then again last weekend. This time I chose the first class car caboose, and you get to be out on the observation deck. Our guide, J. Leigh was amazing, and I learned so much more about the train and its history. Definitely worth the extra money.
