Mount Fremont Lookout Trail Experience in Mt. Rainier National Park

With clear skies, I’m certain this trail is breathtaking. I’ve seen some amazing photos along the entire hike, especially of Mount Rainier when you reach the lookout tower. Unfortunately, we hiked this in a complete cloud cover and fog. I’d honestly say if you have similar weather, it’s not really worth the effort. I plan to return to Mount Rainier one day and re-do this hike! FYI, we did Sourdough Ridge → Mount Fremont Tower → Wonderland Trail → Sunrise Rim Trail and it was a good loop.

One of best mountain hike I ever did. Remember hiking here is going to be bit cold. I did morning hike and it was splendid. Fremont Lookout trail is close to 5 miles out and back. I recommend carrying some warm clothes if you are doing a sunrise hike. Also this hike is pretty rocky so use a good hiking shoe to avoid knee jerks while descending.

Beautiful views from the start and the end of trail viewpoint is great! I added a small detour on the way back towards Dege peak but not all the way; about a mile extra. I loved the detour; more quiet, more green and has great view of the glacier and cascades. The sunrise area was full by 10:30am, so had to wait 40 minutes at the gate to get in. Once the area is full, they only let a car in when a car goes out. After you enter, the parking was easy everywhere. I parked right next to the trailhead. No bear sightings :( No more snow on the trail, except for a small horizontal patch about 10 ft long With that being said, if you have limited time then the skyline trail and Paradise area is better. Prettier trail and more diverse meadows with blooming flowers. This trail was mostly rocks and dirt.

Did a sunset hike, and it was spectacular. I think I was more in awe of the night sky on our way back. The milkyway was so visible. I loved this experience. I went on a Thursday night after work, and it wasn't that busy.
