Caravan Outpost in Ojai

Our stay at Caravan Outpost was one of those trips that ended up being even better than we expected. Coming from the city, we wanted something different for the kids, something a little more outdoorsy, relaxed, and memorable. This place delivered. The kids had an absolute blast. For them, staying in an Airstream felt like a real adventure, and they loved every part of it. It was fun watching them get excited about the little things: the setup, the open space, the atmosphere, and just being somewhere that felt completely different from home. As a dad, I really appreciated how easy the whole experience was. The Airstream was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed, so it still felt convenient while giving us that unique and novel camping feeling. The property has a great vibe, the location is close to shops, restaurants, and breweries, and everything from check-in to check-out was smooth. We left already talking about when we could come back. This was such a great family getaway, and we’re excited to make it a yearly tradition from now on. We can’t wait to return next year.

Rarely does a place live up to its beautifully curated Instagram photos, but Caravan Outpost absolutely does. From the moment we arrived, the grounds felt peaceful, stylish, and thoughtfully designed. The Airstream itself was full of charm and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay: clean, fluffy beds, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, a stove, sink, and refrigerator. Check-in and check-out were effortless, and the location was within walking distance of shops and restaurants. I’ve already recommended Caravan Outpost to so many people. It’s a dreamy little escape and the perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

I genuinely don’t understand why this place gets so many glowing reviews. Our overpriced stay was extremely uncomfortable from start to finish. The photos on their website are also very misleading, the space is much much smaller than it appears. The shower, in particular, is incredibly cramped (roughly 3 by 2 feet), making it difficult to use comfortably. The air conditioning unit was so loud that we barely slept at night. I even attempted to host a Zoom meeting from inside, but had to cancel because the noise made it impossible to hear anything. When we raised these issues with the office, their suggestion was to open the windows, which only added insult to injury because of how uncomfortably hot it was inside. To make matters worse , when they eventually offered a partial refund, it came less than an hour before the time they required us to vacate, and we weren’t even on-site at the time. After we informed them that we had checked out early, they offered an even smaller refund, which we have still not received a month later. Do yourself a favor find another place with better accommodations and better service.

EDITED TO ADD MY RESPONSE TO THEIR RESPONSE: For the record, we canceled a week prior to our reservation, not the day before. And them “kindly making an exception to allow us to stay one night instead of their two night minimum“ was nothing but a farce because they still required us to pay for two nights LOL. BUT THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT when booking. And we never got the “check-in” email that supposedly mentions their cancellation policy because we canceled our reservation a week in advance. Anybody who looks on their website will see that there is zero mention of any cancellation policy. These people are a rip off. For $500 for one night, you can stay at the Blue Iguana Inn or Emerald Iguana Inn in town or the Lavender Inn and get a HUGE two bedroom suite with a full kitchen (and breakfast at the Lavender Inn!!) for the same price ha!!! ————————- We asked for a one night stay instead of the two night minimum, they ended up charging us for the 2 nights anyway, and when we canceled a week before, they took half $$ of the full two days rate. For a tiny airstream $500 for one night. The one day was advertised at little over $200 on their website. So yes they will let you stay one night but at the cost for two nights. How stupid is that? Their cancellation policy is nowhere to be found on their website or when booking. What a joke. Other hotels in town cost the same amount but at least there is a room that has more than 50 square feet of space to stay in, and a shower larger than the 3 foot x 3 foot shower they offer in these airstreams located in the industrial buildings area of Ojai. Oh and your view: Public Storage across the street. Dog poop in the rocks outside the airstream. Will never stay there.

What an absolute gem! You can truly feel the love and thought that went into every little detail. It has such a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the location is perfect. We loved every minute of our stay!
