Great views, but the quest requires some effort. Point Dume is a beautiful spot with impressive views over the Malibu coastline. Ocean, cliffs, beach and plenty of opportunities for great photos — exactly what you hope for along this part of California. Getting around and finding the right access can feel like a small side quest, but once you reach the viewpoint, the scenery makes up for it. Not quite a legendary 5/5 location for us, but definitely worth stopping by when exploring Malibu. Quest reward: Pacific views + Malibu vibes. 4/5.

Point Dume is easily one of the most breathtaking spots in Malibu. The short hike to the top rewards you with stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, dramatic cliffs, and miles of beautiful coastline. Whether you’re visiting for sunrise, sunset or any time, the experience is unforgettable.

Point Dume is one of the most cinematic and breathtaking locations in all of Southern California. These majestic cliffs rising above the ocean look like a movie set, and for good reason - this is exactly where the finale of the original "Planet of the Apes" was filmed National Park Service. It is an absolute must-visit if you want to witness the truly wild and powerful beauty of the Pacific. From the top of the bluff, you get an incredible view of Santa Monica Bay and the endless horizon, and during the winter and spring months, you can even spot migrating gray whales from here California State Parks. Descending the stairs to the secluded beach below, you feel worlds away from the city hustle, surrounded by pristine water and golden sand. It is the perfect spot to feel the scale of nature and witness the most beautiful sunset of your life.

The point is about one and a half miles from the main road. Then it's about a 5-minute walk to the top. Amazing views from the top of the bluff. The marine layer and or humidity can greatly affect how far you can see down the coast.

Easy hike with Scenic views. We parked in the beach parking and started hike from beach. The trail itself is beautiful with all yellow flowers all around and then the stunning views of pacific ocean. The trail is well maintained and easy to walk. There are a couple of viewpoints on the trail where you can sit and enjoy the view. You can also spot sea lions from trail.
