Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens, located on the windward side of Oahu in Kane’ohe, offers a unique escape into nature. Spanning over 400 acres, these gardens are set against the majestic Ko’olau mountains and feature a range of distinct botanical areas connected by a main road. Visitors can explore the six themed areas, each with its own parking lot, restrooms, and walking paths. The gardens also include a serene lake ideal for a relaxing stroll, and short trails that meander through lush vegetation. This is the best place in Oahu. Admission is free. This garden spans 400 acres and features tropical botanical collections from various regions. Lush landscapes, tranquil lakes and scenic Mountain Views make this place a must-visit. Incredible surroundings and very well maintained paths allow for an excellent nature stroll. Do visit the visitor center where forest rangers explain culture of Hawaii. There’s plenty of parking and parking is free. We spent more than half a day here.

For economical travelers like us, it is free and worth seeing with its magnificent view. We came by bus and walked through the entire landscape. Passage by car is also free. But walking is much better to see all the details! It is not a long walking distance, we enjoyed it very much. There were also people having a picnic. At the entrance, they warn you not to take pictures along the road. (I couldn't understand why) But we saw that everyone in the car was filming. We were surprised that such a place is free, you should definitely go!

Absolutely stunning views of the mountains with the beautiful lake. A lot of the signs say that the path is rough but it was actually a super easy path to walk down to the water. We parked at the education center and took the path right to the water, stopping to view all the different plants. We visited in early March and it was just the perfect day! Also, there were tons of friendly ducks!

This is somehow a free 400 arboretum that has plants from all over the world and a huge lake. The entry and parking is free though you may need to search fir a spot. Restrooms are available at the visitors center as are maps (look for the blue brochures) and some exhibits. The area is laid out in groups of plants from different countries with each group having trails and some even having campsites with restrooms. Expect to spend at least an hour or two here, especially if you bring a lunch to enjoy.

I've been there only a couple of times because I live rather far from it but it's a wonderful garden but will go there again and again. Huge but well maintained. I wish the path to the lake has more paved so that it's easier for people with a stroller but can't ask because it's good enough. Can't believe it's free admission. Highly recommended. Good sized parking lots available.
