Beautiful black sand beach and unforgettable turtle sighting Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach was one of the most memorable stops of our trip. The black sand alone makes it worth visiting, but seeing a sea turtle resting peacefully on the shore made the experience even more special. It’s a beautiful place to slow down, take in the ocean, and appreciate something you don’t see every day. The contrast of the dark sand, the waves, the palm trees, and the wildlife made it feel like a true Big Island moment. Definitely worth the visit. Just remember to respect the turtles, give them space, and enjoy the view without disturbing them.

This was my son's bucket list and it fulfilled all expectations. The views are beautiful and the texture of the sand was very unique. There is a small keep out area expressly designed for turtles and there happened to be three right in that area.

This is a lovely kind of secluded beach. The black sand was something different. I didn't see people in the water, and I would not let my kids go in FYI. The scenery is typical Hawaiian. Black sand, coconut trees and sea turtles. Great stop yo stretch our legs.

First time ever to a black sand beach. We used to live in Miami and we're used to the beauty of white sand beaches. This black sand beach is beautiful and we were able to check out several sea turtles. I look forward to coming back again soon to spend more time here Definitely worth the visit! Kids will have a blast here.

An absolute MUST DO when on Big Island! Beautiful beach that always has turtles with GREAT photo opportunities. The beach, the view, turtles and an opportunity for grounding your body that will leave you feeling better than when you arrived. You won't be disappointed, this will be one of the highlights of your vacation. When done take the drive to the Puna Lu'u Bakery and treat yourself with lunch or malasadas that are absolutely incredible.
