Cabana Living at San Diego Mission Bay Resort

I suspect this resort reads all its reviews and adjusts things based on feedback. We basically only picked this hotel because it was walking distance to our half marathon, and after I read the more negative reviews, my expectations were low. However, I noticed NONE of the complaints that other people had mentioned in reviews. Everything about this hotel was perfect in every way. Quiet, comfortable beds, clean and modern rooms, non smoky room, peaceful, quiet AC, friendly, helpful staff. They also must have added free drinking water in the main area after someone complained about not getting free water. There were resort activities every day including a fun free comedy show. The whole area was beautiful, very nice to walk around even if the location didn't have off-site restaurants/shops to walk to. There were so many water activity rentals you could do and the pool area had lots of games. It was not very crowded too which was nice. Saw the jacuzzis being available a lot. The staff was nice enough to give us amenity access for the whole day even after we checked out since our flight wasn't until later. Overall, a wonderful experience and would stay here again.

We only stayed one night here. It's actually in a great location. Close to the zoo and SeaWorld. The staff was really nice also. However, the cleanliness of the room was sub par. The restroom smelled like someone did number 2 in there before we first arrived. The headboards had grime, cobwebs on the mirrors, the grout needs to be deep cleaned, the bathroom sink counter had cracks and was stained, the curtains had all kinds of spots/dirt/food/whatever you want to call it on them, and the small glass table had a greasy substance on it. There was more but those is what I remember the most. The bed was also not comfortable as I could feel the mattress springs through the sheets. The cleanliness needs to be worked on at the hotel which is an automatic 0/1 star rating. I did rate it 2 stars because of the location and the staff were nice.

My husband and I stayed here and loved it! The location is only 10 minutes from downtown and so convenient. We loved how quiet it was and right on the water. The pools were nice and we enjoyed all the food. The parking and resort fees really add up, but still really liked the resort!

This resort has a bit of an identity crisis. The grounds and location are beautiful - full of trees, flowering tropical plants and nice views of the water. The pool and restaurant area is lovely, and it connects right to walking and running paths and parks along the waterfront. The people who were there are very friendly and helpful. However, the buildings and rooms are badly in need of renovation. The villa room I stayed in had small, shabby beds - no way those are queen-size beds for two people - and smelled really strongly of stale cigarette smoke or mold. The electrical/HVAC is old, and one wall of lighting in my room didn't work at all. Cracks in the bathroom sink and stained counters. I stayed as part of a conference so my room rate was acceptable for the quality of the stay, but I would not choose to pay the regular rate to come back for a vacation. it's got a lot of potential, but the rooms need some serious love to make it feel like a relaxing getaway.

Reading reviews and I did not experience some of what is stated on bad reviews. Alleluia a firm bed which to me appears new. Room was fresh and clean and most of all the staff is more than helpful and friendly. The idea of a $40 per day for parking is a surprise so while the $200 isn't going to bleed me it is a turn off. I see hotels doing this more and more and it does not encourage repeat business. For heavens sake raise the price of the room and call it a day. Surprise fees will kill incentive every time. Just some friendly advice.
