Location & Hours
Bed was comfortable. Although we did not use it, it had the largest TV of any hotel I have ever visited. I think it was 65" or 75". Had a large pool, 2 hot tubs, and shallow kids pool. Staff was very friendly and accommodative. But considering the cost, I can only give it 3 stars for "good" rating. $42.50 / night to park in the parking lot (I think you might be able to park on the street outside the resort for free). There's a resort fee although we booked through Costco and did not have to pay that. The restaurant was good, but not outstanding. It seems like everywhere in San Diego including that restaurant a surcharge onto the bill on top of the taxes. It would be better and more honest if they just increase their prices and get rid of the credits/discounts and add-on fees for things that everyone uses anyway. They give a $15/day resort credit that can be applied to any purchases on the resort (not sure if that is for all guests or part of the Costco package we got), but would prefer if the pricing was more up-front and honest.
I've stayed at the resort twice. Both experiences have been really nice. The rooms are up to date and have great views. The staff is great and if you like to run or walk, the trails are endless. My only ding is that the resort is isolated. You need to drive to do anything other than eat at the 1 restaurant, or walk around the waterway. The trolley is a close drive, as is Old Town, but again, you must drive. For business purposes, this is a great resort.
We booked suites and we didn't get them, they gave them away to the convention visitors. Upon arrival it took 45 minutes in line to get checked-in, then we waited for nearly 2 hours to get the wrong rooms. We didn't get into our rooms until after 5 pm and check in was 4 pm. We had to beg to get out rooms cleaned on a daily basis and had to beg for an extra roll of TP. The ice machine in our building did not work and we were told we had to walk all the way to the bar to get ice. Be careful of the outrageous surcharges in the restaurants. They are very expensive. There is only one restaurant that serves lunch and dinner and the menu does not change. However the waiters and waitresses were all very nice and personable. The salt water pool was freezing cold. Towels at the pool were scarce even when the pool was not busy. On a bright spot the concierge, Katie was a dream. She was so kind, very helpful in helping us make plans, making dinner reservations and getting tickets. She is also a really great person. We're glad we got to know her. Your resort leaves a lot to be desired. We've stayed in many resorts over the last 50 years and I can't say that I would ever return.
Great resort. Location is secluded which cuts both ways (feels like you’re on vacation away from everything; not walking distance to much so plan to have a car or get Ubers). Rooms are clean and comfortable and seem newly renovated. Pool is great. Service is top notch and friendly. They make you feel wanted and not like just another customer they have to deal with like some other places I’ve been.
My stay at this hotel was the worst experience I have ever had. I was assuming by the photos and price that the hotel would be at least a 4 star hotel. Once I arrived at the hotel the outside appearance was nice the pool is small so if your bringing younger children you will have no space in the pool. I reserved a ocean view room to walk out to the beach in advance. The check in process was very slow I had to wait until 6pm to get a room. Once in the room the room was not clean and smelled horrible. I requested a new room and they complied, the next room was clean but not up the the level of money I paid and what I reserved. None of the staff was rude at all but service was just really slow. I would recommend saving your money and go to another hotel close by. Trust me it is not worth a penny I paid for this hotel still needs a lot of upgrades for the money I paid. Never again.
