We spent our 26th year wedding anniversary on the Napa wine train. We had such a good time. Everybody was super friendly. The staff was great and the food was also really good way better than I expected. I had the mignon which was cooked to perfection and my wife ordered the salmon and it was also perfect. We had a total of three wine tastings, one on the train. Our first stop at Krug winery and then another wine tasting at sattui winery. And we enjoyed the dancing in the open cart. It was super fun. We had a good group of people on the train, And met a lot of people from locals to around the world.

Friends and I went on the Lunch Wine Train yesterday. Service provided by Miguel was awesome. Jenn was a great host. Drinks were ok. Food was good though. Had tomato soup which was delicious. The filet was cooked medium well even though I asked for medium but was still tender. Chocolate cake was good. I left stuffed. All of the staff were nice and accommodating. Kind of expensive considering drinks weren't included and train ride was mainly on a highway. Not sure if I'd return but we'll see. Thank you!

My wife and I celebrated our 27th anniversary on the Wine Train. We had an amazing time and enjoyed the entire experience. The food courses we received were amazing and the staff did a phenomenal job taking care of us. You will absolutely have a blast on this tour!

We did the legacy package, I was skeptical about the price but I had 3 family birthdays in the same week and wanted to do something big for all of them. The staff did not disappoint. From check in to finally walking away from the train to go home, it was first class treatment all the way through. Oscar killed it in the kitchen, food was great! Remy, Lailani and nick went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing experience. We would definitely do this again.

Did this to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. Thought it would be a fun experience versus a night of few shots. IT WAS FANTASTIC! I am not a wine drinker per se but I thought a four course meal and riding a train through Napa visiting historic wineries would be cool. We had a great time! Alicia and Oscar were our hosts and they couldn’t have been any more professional, friendly, or attentive. No airs, just wine history, incredible food, and a fun experience. 10/10 recommend!

Can you bring your own wine?

Yes, we recognize that many people have special wines they would like to have for their special occasion. The Napa Valley Wine Train charges a corkage fee of $20.00 per 750ml bottle and $30 for a magnum-sized bottle. If you bring one bottle of wine on board and buy a bottle on board, we’ll waive the corkage for the bottle brought on. At the Napa Valley Wine Train, we have a Wine Shop with almost 500 wines available for purchase and we have an extensive onboard wine list with approximately 40 wines.

Are children allowed aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train?

Children are always welcome, and some packages have special rates. Caution is recommended to parents of toddlers who might have a difficult time ‘relaxing’ for three hours. Due to the general movement of the train or the rare potential for a sudden stop, children cannot walk about the cars unattended. Diaper changing is not permitted in the railcars due to food service and the bathrooms are somewhat small. McKinstry Street Station has a diaper changing station in the restroom. Due to safety issues, strollers and carriers are not permitted on board, but booster seats are available.

How long does each trip last?

Are the meals made by the Napa Valley Wine Train?

The Gourmet Express, Vista Dome cars, the Vintage Rail Car 1052 and 1013 all have their own kitchen and specific menu. Award-winning Executive Chef Donald Young and his culinary staff do not cook each meal until it is ordered. Some of the side dishes and desserts are prepared in the Napa Valley Wine Train’s Culinary Arts Center and ‘finish’ cooked or baked on board during the three to six hour excursions. Even the sorbets are made by us!

What if I have a food allergy?

What do we wear?

We encourage our guests to dress in layers as well as wear comfortable shoes since some walking is necessary, especially during the tasting portion of your experience. We encourage our guests to dress for the occasion, though we do not have an enforced dress code. Dinner can be dressier; some guests prefer cocktail party attire. Jackets are suggested on cool nights, but not required. It is always a good idea to bring an extra layer to make sure you are warm enough on board.
