Visit Charming Chateau Montelena Winery

Only great things to say about these guys. I recently visited Chateau Montelena in less-than-ideal circumstances, including: - without making a reservation - in the late afternoon (they close at 4:30) - with nine of my friends - during the week of the 50th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris It would have been totally reasonable for them to turn us away given all of these factors, but the team went above and beyond to accommodate our entire group. Our tasting was guided by Mark, who I believe is a manager, and held in a private tasting room (again, they absolutely could have turned us away!). He also let us take all the time we needed despite it approaching the end of their day. Such a highlight of my recent trip to Napa. As an aside, I'm a social work intern at a day center for older adults living with dementia. A few weeks after my visit to Montelena, I was inspired to create a program at the center themed around the Judgment of Paris. I gave a brief overview of the history and context, held a blind wine tasting (Napa beat France again 😊) and all of the participants had a blast. Everyone also enjoyed looking at the Chateau Montelena souvenirs and photos I brought with me. The center is in Chapel Hill, NC but our participants are originally from all over, and many fondly recalled their past visits to Napa and Sonoma during this program. So all in all, thank you for all you do-- the visit meant a lot to me and to the program participants as well!

Chateau did not disappoint. It's looks great from the outside just like I.was expecting. From the moment I arrived at the front door I was greeted by friendly people. Joel, Tash and John were wonderful hosts in the tasting room. The tasting is worth it 100%. Sad I will probably never come back again.

This is a very special place, especially compared to other wineries in Napa. There's a pavilion on a serene lake where swans glide peacefully across the water. The staff was incredibly polite and patient, welcoming us even though we didn't have a reservation. One of them even took us to see a unique lemon tree with fruit that looks like fingers. You should definitely come visit!

Found a rare cultural gem in Napa! 🍷 This estate, once a private retirement chateau for a Chinese couple, features beautiful traditional decor—including a stunning pavilion floating on the water. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy their crisp 2023 Chardonnay. Such a peaceful, serene escape!

While picturesque in many ways, the tasting visit and atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Their wine was good. No complaints there. The tasting just felt short, rushed and more like we should just buy bottles and leave at the end instead of spending more time relaxing on the grounds with an additional glass of wine and then purchasing wine to take home. Great story and history just needs a little more for the current customer.
