A very cool indoor rainforest. A large spiraling walkway takes you up to the top, from which you take an elevator into the basement where the Steinhart aquarium and viewing for the large amazon tank is. There is a large number of very cool and unusual species in very well scaped terrariums around the walkway on the way up. The main atrium hosts a large variety of Butterfly and tropical bird species as well, highlights including the Javan Leafbird and burnished buff tanager.

This was an amazing experience! The rainforest was the coolest part but there’s aquariums, educational sections and great animals to view!!

A must visit when you go to the Academy. If you visit during the. Nightlife events on Thursdays make sure you stop here first before the last entry at 7:30pm. The dome is full of plants, butterflies and birds. On each floor there are small terrariums and exhibits with lizards, insects, frogs that live in a rainforest. You begin at the bottom and the walk way spirals around the dome to the top where it gets more hot and humid. Note the various living walls and nextar and fruit stands for butterflies to feed on. At the top you’ll take the elevator down to the aquarium - stay near the glass to see yourself “plunge” through the water where you see fish eye to eye.

One of the best experiences at the Cal. academy. There are many butterflies in this biodome to look at and they fly very close to you. Very humid as it emulates the weather of the rainforest.
