GREAT!! A must do for families and individuals. Make sure you buy your tickets online and check in and pickup your boarding pass before boarding the train. We had to wait for several people to get off the train and go do this. The staff are friendly and Charles the Conductor provided full time education and entertainment. Thank you to him, Doug the engineer and George the steam guy(maintained the steam was at the right levels to keep the engine going). The tour was about 90 minutes and they take you through the beautiful Coastal Redwood trees hundreds of years old. They let you get off for about 8 minutes while they prepare the train for the return ride. The roots of these magnificent trees could go for thousands of years. The information provided on the regeneration of these trees and their ability to be fire retardant was fascinating. They offer a place to recharge with food, drinks and ice cream. Overall an excellent experience! It’s pricey like $100 for 2 adults and parking but worth it!
Wedding Day at Roaring Camp. See pics. Beautiful. I’ve never been here before, but what a cool experience! The wedding guests arrived and strolled through Roaring Camp until the wedding train was ready for boarding. Then we got on our private train and took a ride through the redwood forest to a small wooded clearing where a fairy tale ceremony took place. The weather was perfect, but perhaps I needed a warmer coat. This really was something to remember. After some champagne and pics we all boarded the train and headed back to Roaring Camp, where we attended the reception in Bret Harte Hall. By that time, Roaring Camp had closed to regular guests and the wedding attendees had the entire town privately. Very cool.
Great place for families! We did the steam engine through the redwoods. We sat in the first car and it was great!!! You were able to have an unobstructed view since you sit in the middle and no one is in front of you. Make sure your little ones go to the restroom before the ride, otherwise you will spend your 10 minute break in the restroom line instead of enjoying the scenery and exploring. The guide was comical and had some good info. But don't worry, he doesn't talk the entire time! The BBQ place was closed, and the other food place didn't have a good selection of kids meals, which was surprising. The general store had all the souvenirs even little tiny redwood trees to take home and plant.
Great place to bring kids. Highly suggest the train ride up into the redwoods. It's peaceful (aside from the train) and beautiful. The train seats are wooden benches, so be mindful of your comfort level. They take a pit stop at the top and there are bathrooms available for use. Buy your tickets in advanced so you know what you're getting into. They also go down to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on specific days. There's also a small concessions counter to buy food, so no worries about buying the packed lunch, unless you just want to make it easier on yourself. Have fun!
Went on the train ride with family. It's an open train so please wear warm clothes. It goes through the red wood forests and it's beautiful! Dogs are allowed on the train too. The train goes up the hill and stops at this location called bear mountain for 10 minutes, they have restroom there hence it's very convenient. It's a 75 minutes ride and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd suggest booking your tickets in advance so you dont have to wait in line and make sure you call them ahead if you're late. They usually are ready to wait a couple of minutes. Will definitely visit again.
