Gone Whale Watching offers one of its kind ocean experience. These guys don't run a large cruise boat with lots of passengers and food service. Instead, they offer a small, fast boat that fits up to 6 passengers. It feels like a private charter that gets way closer to the action than any other company. This trip is 2.5-3 hours long. You will see dolphins, whales, sharks and other marine wildlife. Also, the captain is a certified drone operator. He will share all footage from the trip, so there is a chance you will get an epic video of you next to the whales!

The most incredible amazing 12hr day with Gone Whale Whatching in San Diego, CA. Orcas!!!♬ Paradise - Bazzi
I recently went on a trip with Gone Whale Watching in San Diego and Maui. I have traveled to many places but this trip sits right at the top of my list. It was a 5 day expedition on the water and I was completely blown away with what we saw. Capt Dom and Erica were both professional, knowledgeable, friendly and a joy to be around. They completely exceeded my expectations for the trip and our cetacean findings were out of this world. We encountered a comp pod of 30 whales, multiple breaches, a lot of activity right next to our boat, false killer whales, spinner, spotted & bottlenose dolphins… I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. I highly recommend booking with Gone Whale Watching in San Diego and if you can make the trip to Maui you won’t regret it. I’ll definitely be going back on a yearly basis to continue to explore the ocean with their team. Thank you!!!
We had a great time even though we did not see any whales. Intimate, casual setting was nice to just impromptu spend 3+ hours on the water with my friend, checking out the San Diego coast line and the beautiful pacific (I’m on the Atlantic side so my first time seeing it!). Price was fair, so if you want to enjoy a day on the water but not spend $$$$ for a yacht, this is a great alternative. Weather was a bit chilly but I was okay in shorts and a blouse.
No matter if you’re a tourist or a San Diegan, a trip with Captain Dom and his crew with Gone Whale Watching is a must. We’ve been on two tours and got to see several different types of whales and to say we’ve seen hundreds of dolphins would be an understatement. Huge pods surrounded the boat! It was spectacular and a memory we will always cherish with our granddaughter. One of THE best tours we’ve ever been on. You just can’t capture the moment on one of the big tours with hundreds of other people like you can with the intimate setting of Gone Whale Watching.
I cannot recommend them enough. We had reservations with another tour but shortly after I canceled because I was told Gone Whale Watching was highly recommended. I canceled our other reservations and booked with them and I do not regret that decision. We had the honor of being guided by Captain Tom and wow is all I can say. We found a whale but he was being a little stubborn and honestly weren’t sure if we were going to be able to see him. Captain Tom didn’t give up, was extremely patient, and right at the end we saw the beautiful whale and his fluke and it was worth every moment of waiting. Captain Tom was so knowledgeable and just so awesome honestly. If we had time this visit, we would’ve booked one more round. We’re coming back in May and looking forward to booking with them again for our son who loves all wild life. Honestly the highlight of our trip. I’ll never forget it!
This review is long overdue! As a San Diego resident and a huge ocean addict, I have been using this company for the past two years to get my ocean wildlife fix. I cannot recommend them enough. This is not your typical whale watching tour with tons of passengers, but a very intimate experience with a maximum of 6 passengers. It almost feels like a private tour. The crew is absolutely wonderful and fun, as well as extremely knowledgeable about marine wildlife. I have been on tours with Captains Dom, Tom, Tai and Kyle and all of them have been so amazing. This is not the zoo but the open ocean so whales are not always easy to find as they can be elusive, but all the captains and the crew are always working hard to try to find them as well as all kinds of other animals. I have seen a lot of cool wildlife with them and learned so much about all. So if you are visiting the area or live here and want to do a whale and dolphin watching tour, please do yourself a favor and book with Gone Whale Watching and enjoy the ride!
