I have a fantastic morning diving thanks to the team from Bamboo Reef Scuba Diving. The fantastic experience began a few weeks prior, when I called up while I was back home in Australia and spoke to a lovely staff member with a few questions. He was very helpful and booked me in over the phone for my diving experience. The morning that I arrived at the shop I was warmly greeted and introduced to my dive guide Sam. Sam was super helpful especially with helping me with my weights as I was not use to dry suits and also pounds in place of KG for weight. We dove at The Wall and it was SO spectacular! Diving through the kelp forest was just spectacular and getting to see a show put on by sea lions was just amazing! Would have to be one of my favorite dives! Sam was such a great dive guide, ensuring he pointed out lots of sea life along the dive and took his camera and captured some great pictures of me and the sea life. I would highly recommend seeing the team at Bamboo dive if your looking to dive in Monterey.

Placed an order for a pair of freediving fins that the shop didn't have the size for my partner on Dec 16th 2023 and paid in full. Called them around mid Jan to check the status and all we got was they had no idea when the fins would get sent. I tried to give them some more time to see if the shop would sort it out and actually follow up. Called them again just a couple of days ago (Sunday) and was told the same thing that they didn't know when the fins would get sent and couldn't contact the supplier as it's on Sunday and Monday the shop was closed so the staff who answered the phone promised me that someone would give me a call on Tuesday. Of course, no one called. In my opinion, if you have taken my money and confidently told me that the fins could be ordered then I would expect a follow-up call to the supplier regarding the shipping date would be part of the customer service when the order didn't turn up after a month and a half. I appreciated the refund but if you want to place an order for the customer and ask for the money upfront, then do the job right.

Came in and stood at the service counter for a good 10 minutes. One of the instructors came by and got one of the regular employees for me. That kid didn't really know too much but went and asked whoever was in the back room a question for me. I can only assume one was a manager but they couldn't be bothered to come out and talk apparently. I was interested in buying a pricey piece of equipment to replace the one I had. That's ok I guess, I will go spend my money elsewhere.

Did a morning tour with Bamboo Reef this morning and had a blast. The temp above 20 feet was around 57 and dropped to 52 by about 30-35 feet. I was on work trip and had time to sneak in one early morning dive, and Bamboo was able to accommodate my needs and had great equipment to rent. They took care of everything and gave us an awesome guide. If you are a warm water diver like me, Bamboo can get you setup and comfortable in the "cool" waters of the Pacific, including a great overview of the San Carlos Beach area. I recommend the wall for your first dive because you can see a lot in a 50 minute dive.

Just got my Open Water Diver cert with Bamboo Reef and I cannot recommend them enough! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, rentals are very reasonably priced and the thick semi-dry 8/7mm wetsuits they have here are a must if you want to stay warm in the water. Special shout out to Brian for personally taking the time to help me during my open water checkout. See you guys next weekend!

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes, all students must pass a swim evaluation during the beginning of their class.

What is the equipment rental cost for students?

Equipment Rental for the weekend is included when you sign up for the ocean dives. This includes an 8/7mm Semi-Dry Wetsuit, a BCD, a regulator w/ computer, 2 tanks, weight, and airfills.

What gear are students required to own?

We require students to have their own a mask, snorkel, neoprene booties, and *SCUBA fins. Students are also required to have their own neoprene gloves if they are doing their check out dives with us in Monterey. (Fins must be SCUBA quality.)
