Escape in a Campervan Rental

I rented a Ford Maverick and traveled alone, so I had plenty of space. The camper was well equipped – I added bedding, kitchen gear, a camp chair, and a gas canister (each comes at an extra cost). I even took it to the Burning Man festival: despite the high mileage, it drove reliably from San Francisco to Black Rock City and back. Comfortable to drive, and thanks to the colorful design, lots of people came up to me and even took photos of the van.

4th time renting a mesa escape van! We had a wonderful trip to Yosemite, sequoia and kings canyon NP. We love how functional escape vans are and how well they work for us. It has enabled us to see so many beautiful places, hike amazing trails, have wonderful adventures and meet interesting people. We have also visited Rocky Mountain NP, Yellowstone and Grand Canyon NP and Utah Mighty Five. Christine in the San Jose office was wonderful, very helpful and friendly and got us on the road quickly. We are sad that escape van is closing down but thank you for all our amazing memories over the years.

Rented a van for a weeks trip through the national parks. Van was equipped with what we needed, super spacious, had ample storage, and drove really well. When we were checking in my flight was delayed and we weren’t going to arrive until 30 minutes past close. Jamie stayed late to help us out and ensure we could add a second driver. Thank you Jamie!! We rented a Mavericks campervan for 16 days, starting in San Francisco and returning it in Los Angeles. After reading some negative reviews about the reliability of Mavericks, I was a bit concerned—especially since ours had nearly 390,000 miles on it. But we drove over 3,100 miles without a single issue. The van was surprisingly comfortable and very convenient. The kitchen setup and fridge were super handy and worked perfectly throughout the trip. For the price, it’s a no-brainer. We had an amazing trip, and the van played a big part in it.

We loved our van! For 20 days, it carried us safely over 7,000 kilometers — through deserts, across mountains, and down countless highways. It was an unforgettable road trip. If we could change one thing, we’d probably go for a van with built-in air conditioning for the nights — it did get pretty warm at times. Also, it’s important to understand that you really get exactly what you book. We chose a Ford E150 — an old but very cool vehicle and definitely a head-turner! Just keep in mind: it’s a used van, so don’t expect it to be spotless or silent. There were a few stains on the upholstery and some odd noises while steering — nothing major, but good to know in advance.
