Description

Located in Hermann Park, Houston, Texas, the Cockrell Butterfly Center offers a unique opportunity to get up close with butterflies from all around the world in a tropical rainforest setting. This three-story glass enclosure is home to thousands of butterflies that fly freely, often alighting on visitors. The environment, maintained at a warm and humid 80 degrees Fahrenheit, mimics the butterflies' natural habitats. Feeding stations and indigenous, as well as exotic plants, create an ideal environment for these beautiful creatures. Visitors can also witness the amazing butterfly life cycle, with chrysalises brought in weekly from different countries.

It was truly beautiful. It is almost too much. There are so many butterfies and moths that it was hard to see them fluttering around in all the beautiful foliage and flowers. If the rest of the Museam is this wonderful, we can't wait to visit it all! We had a wonderful time.

We were on vacation, me from Wimberley, Texas and my travel partner from Chicago and the live butterfly exhibit was on top of my list. The place is truly amazing. It's a little bit like Moody Garden's Rain Forest. We went on a Saturday. We went early but there were still more people then I would have thought. Get your tickets on line or use one of the kiosk's they have all over the place. They have a ticket window as well. We found the best way to enjoy the butterflies was to just sit for a while. Camera's are allowed but no flash. You really shouldn't need a flash as there is plenty of light. Also, they have butterflies you can buy but you have to release them there. I saw several people buying them for their children. Besides butterflies they have a large, live, beetle collection

This was my second visit to the Butterfly Center and I really enjoyed it. The spectacular colors on the butterfly's wings always amaze me and remind me of Nature's beautiful creation. I'd suggest booking tickets in advance as they have a cap on the number of people allowed in each time slot. Or you could call them to check the availability. This place is located inside the Museum of Natural History in Houston.

First visit, I had a beautiful peaceful experience here. It was so cool learning about insects and butterflies. I went on a weekday so there was lots of groups and tourists but overall I enjoyed it.

Really cool place. We all enjoyed our visit, it was very informative and. The area where the butterflies are is open and full of beautiful plants and butterflies.
