Canoe Caddo Lake's Majestic Cypress Swamps

We had a wonderful experience camping at Caddo Lake State Park. One of my favorite parts was how immersed in nature we felt throughout our stay. The park is beautiful, peaceful, and a great place to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors. The campground was clean and well-maintained, and I appreciated seeing park staff regularly making rounds. It helped us feel safe and secure during our stay. One of the highlights was the wildlife. We even spotted an alligator, which made the experience feel even more unique and memorable. It was such a neat reminder that you're truly in nature at Caddo Lake. My only minor complaint was the sand on the tent pads, which seemed to get everywhere. That said, it was a very small inconvenience compared to an otherwise excellent experience. Overall, this is a beautiful state park, and we will definitely be back.

Nice park. Stayed in a cabin which was very clean, comfortable, and relaxing. The park has its own lake with the beautiful cypress trees, but Caddo Lake itself it's about a 10 minute drive into Uncertain Texas. That place deserves its own review. This park had a few trails and packed a lot of beauty into a small area. They do not sell ice, but there is an ice machine less than half a mile from the park entrance. I did have a bit of an issue in the morning when I wanted to check out early before the office opened. I foolishly assumed there would be a drop off box for my key so I didn't bother to clarify at check in. Apparently there wasn't a drop box. I tried calling the off hours non emergency number, but did not get an answer. I ended up putting my key in a self check in pay envelope and then set it on top of the office door knob. Mostly my fault for not inquiring about the early check out process, though it seems getting a simple drop box would probably be a good idea. Would definitely like to go back to this park and spend more than one night. Fishing, hiking, and camping opportunities available at this park. Can't even describe the beauty of the cypress swamps. They're magical.

Mystical Beauty! We visited this state park in April,2025. When we arrived at the information center, the officer told us that park's canoe rentals are closed, but she did provide us with a list of other tour providers. To arrange the boat trip, we then got in touch with Mr. Dan Walker from the list, who runs Chill-Lax-N Boat Tours. The greatest way to take in this state park's beauty is by boat. During the 90-minute trip, we understood how this natural lake formed, its history, and the breathtaking views of Big Cypress Bayou, bald cypress trees covered in Spanish moss, wetlands, and backwaters. The cypress trees have a vibrant green color during this season, and lilies bloom in the lake. Following our boat tour, we had lunch and took a short walk through the Caddo Forest loop trail. There are mosquitoes in some parts of the forest, so we used bug repellent. We also went by the famous CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) pavilion, a shelter house. The trail is well-maintained and properly marked. We had a great time in this park and would come here again.

What a great park! We had the best time. We tent camped and the sites were perfect. The hiking trails are relaxed and pretty easy. The screened in shelter was larger than I expected and very clean. They had firewood at our site when we arrived. Honestly the lake is the main attraction but after we looked at it we hiked and enjoyed the scenery. I saw others kayaking it but we had other adventures to attend. ❤️⛺🥾🐾

Easy access to the river/bayou. Sites are comfortable and feel spacious. Lots of bugs-bring spray. Great bass fishing close by. Great fishing piers in the park. National wildlife refuge nearby has plenty of hiking.
